People are the most complex subjects to render in wood — and the most culturally significant. The Mr Fox Crafts people collection spans historical Europe, royal courts, indigenous Arctic and African communities, Native American peoples, and the modern world.
Each figure is faceless by design. Without fixed expressions, children project their own emotional narratives onto the figures — a principle central to Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, and open-ended play more broadly. The figures are dressed and posed with enough specificity to be recognisable, while leaving the inner life entirely to the child’s imagination.
